University savings potential

Cuts to university grants and the deregulation of University fees proposed by the coalition government has been a major news item in recent weeks and created many polarised views on the subject. In essence such moves would result in increased fees for students.

However the other side of the coin is the cost base of Universities. A recent article in the Financial Review suggests that universities can make significant impact on their property costs, thus reducing the pressure on student fees.

Go Home on Time

In acknowledgement of the negative impact of extended working hours on worker health and well-being, the Australian Institute and Beyond Blue have joined forces to promote national ‘Go Home on Time’ day on November 20, 2013.

Did you know that:

  • Unpaid overtime equates to $109.6 billion or 7.4 per cent of GDP?
  • 5.1 million employees eat their lunch while working?
  • One in four employees check work emails and answers work calls outside of work hours?

Go Home on Time Day is a small but significant step towards helping workers to rebalance their work and life and helps them to appreciate that life does not need to revolve around work.

There is a dedicated web site where organisations can sign up and receive an official participant’s kit aimed at promoting the day throughout the organisation.

As a small first step to rebalancing your life and work why not sign up for the national ‘Go Home on Time’ Day on November 20. Who knows you may end up having a ‘Go Home on Time‘ Day every week, and maybe even every day!
